Vintage Greystones Harbour

Greystones Harbour has changed over the years from a small fishing harbour to a large commercial Marina. These photos were taken back in the nineties up to circa 2008 by myself and my father, Vincent O'Rourke. Some images (in the archives) by my brother John and the negatives kept lovingly over the years by my mother Marka.

'ABOUT THE OLD HARBOUR'

'The old harbour had a beautiful atmosphere where people sailed, skimmed pepples on the water or just sat and watched the sun go down.  Some days there were yachts leaning over in the sand as the tide went out, big chains stretched across the seaweed and groups of teenagers sitting on the peir wall. And not forgetting the fishermen with their boats, huts and nets.

Alternatively there would be stormy days that threw giant waves high in the air with a whistle of the wind through a hole in the pier.  The charm and nostalgia of the old harbour will always be remembered and it is hoped that these photos will help to keep those memories alive'.
